with insight from seasoned professionals, all part of Vermont Birth Network

For many people, the path to conception and pregnancy is filled with hope, but it can also come with challenges. For support, many families turn to holistic practices, like acupuncture. Here in Vermont, we’re fortunate to have skilled practitioners who specialize in this work to support fertility, pregnancy, and beyond— blending ancient wisdom with modern reproductive care.

Acupuncture uses very thing, flexible needles to stimulates points on the body.

Why Families Choose Acupuncture for Fertility

Acupuncture is a gentle, time-tested therapy that uses very thin needles to stimulate points on the body, helping restore balance, circulation, and nervous system regulation.

For those navigating fertility challenges, it offers a supportive, whole-body approach.

Several Vermont practitioners shared that their own experiences with pregnancy or fertility struggles led them to this work.

Arden Yingling explained, “When I was pregnant, I had the (too common) experience of falling through the cracks with standard OB care, and it was acupuncture that supported me and my baby through borderline pre-eclampsia and postpartum anxiety when my doctors didn't”

Zizi described a similar path, saying, “I was drawn to specialize in fertility medicine through my personal experience with infertility and pregnancy loss.” This experience shaped her both as a person and a provider.

How Acupuncture Supports Fertility

When introducing acupuncture to someone new to the idea, practitioners often emphasize its long history and its ability to address both the physical and emotional aspects of fertility.

“Acupuncture has been used in fertility and pregnancy and gynecology for thousands of years!” says Madeline Mindich.

“Its longstanding ability to help balance hormones and reduce stress and anxiety make it great for helping people on their fertility journey.”

“It looks at you as a whole person,” says Arden.

“It also increases circulation to all your reproductive organs so they can function their best.” She added that it is one of the most widely accepted ‘alternative’ fertility treatments.

Evidence supports these experiences. Madeline noted, “There is evidence that acupuncture regulates hormones and contributes to healthy egg and sperm production and can promote thick uterine linings as well as implantation.”

“There is no guarantee that including acupuncture into your reproductive care will result in a live birth,” says Zizi, “but this medicine offers time-tested methods that can be integrated with modern approaches to reproductive care.”

Acupuncture’s Role During Pregnancy

Support doesn’t stop once conception occurs. Many families use acupuncture to ease the discomforts of pregnancy.

“Acupuncture is non-pharmaceutical and considered safe during pregnancy and can really help with comfort measures during pregnancy and beyond,” says Madeline.

“It can address common complaints like headaches and migraines, nausea and vomiting, carpal tunnel syndrome, back and pelvic pain, and sleep issues.’”

Arden highlighted its flexibility across trimesters, saying, “It can also be used for breech babies and labor prep. Even for people who feel great during pregnancy, it’s an awesome tool to support the mother and baby’s overall health and prevent any issues from coming up.”

Pregnancy is a time of intense physical and emotional changes. “Acupuncture offers a safe and gentle way to support your body,” says Zizi.

And don’t overlook the relaxation benefits! “People tell me how much they love an ‘acu-nap,’” laughs Madeline.

Acupuncture tends to be very relaxing.

Find Acupuncture Support for Fertility and Pregnancy in Vermont

Acupuncture can be a powerful tool for fertility and pregnancy support.

Whether used to prepare the body for conception, support a healthy pregnancy, or ease the path to postpartum recovery, acupuncture offers time-tested care rooted in both tradition and compassion.

“Acupuncture is very safe and super relaxing during fertility treatments and pregnancy, but it's important to work with a licensed practitioner who has experience in those areas, as well as someone you feel comfortable with,” says Arden.

Ideally, treatments begin three months before trying to conceive, “which is the time it takes for one’s resting follicles to develop toward eventually trying to ovulate. Acupuncture for fertility is like preparing the soil before planting a garden!” explains Zizi.
